BATCHELOR INSTITUTE OF INDIGENOUS TERTIARY EDUCATION

Director: Dr Jeannie Herbert

Batchelor Institute is Australia's first tertiary education institution, governed by an independent council of predominantly Indigenous Australian people.

Batchelor Institute offers 'both ways' higher education in Education, Health and
Community Studies as well as Vocational Education and Training courses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Batchelor Institute currently enrolls more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the higher education level than any other tertiary institution in Australia. The majority of the institute's students are mature-aged—between 30 and 45 years—while almost 63 per cent are women.
