CANBERRA GRAMMAR SCHOOL

An independent Anglican School

Co-educational from Pre-school to Year 2, boys only to Year 12.

Head: Dr Justin Garrick

Located in the heart of Australia’s capital, Canberra Grammar School (CGS) provides an outstanding independent education. With enviable academic results, a magnificent campus and a great tradition of sporting and artistic achievement, we offer opportunities unparalleled in the region, allowing students to develop intellectually, physically, culturally and personally. CGS has two campuses – the Northside campus located in Campbell for Pre-kindergarten to Year 2 (co-ed), and the Red Hill campus for Preschool to Year 12 students (co-ed to Year 2).

True to our Anglican foundation, we have a strong commitment to pastoral care. It is our ambition that in learning to live well and in striving for excellence in all endeavours, our students will become compassionate, responsible and intelligent leaders of the next generation.

CGS follows the intellectually rigorous NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) and offers a broad academic and co-curricular program, with electives on offer including: languages, agriculture, drama, design and technology and visual arts, music, economics, geography and history.

In 2010, 44% of CGS students sitting the HSC achieved a university entry score (ATAR) of 90 and over, with 11 students receiving an ATAR above 98. CGS also had 69 students on the Distinguished Achievers’ List, which acknowledges any student who achieves the top performance band in at least one of their subjects in the HSC.

The School’s excellent academic reputation has been recognised in the recent MySchool results, with Numeracy scores topping the ACT in Years 5, 7 and 9. The School’s Reading scores were also top in Year 5 and in the top ranks in all other years.

Boarders join our community from rural Australia and from overseas, as well as from the diplomatic and defence families of Canberra. They can be with us for part or all of their secondary schooling. Tutors, chaplains, nursing sisters and counsellors are among the fully qualified and highly experienced staff available at all times.

Students have access to the School Library for homework and study in the evenings and on weekends.

“I love boarding in Canberra. There are the benefits of being in a city, without having to go to a bigger Sydney boarding school. We get access to all the School facilities, I’ve made lots of friends and there is always someone to talk to.”  - CGS boarder from Griffith

CGS holds Open Days throughout the year, providing an opportunity to visit the School, meet staff and students and tour the facilities. For more information about Open Days and scholarships available, please visit www.cgs.act.edu.au or contact Admissions on +61 2 6260 9744.
