ECU is a dynamic mixture of the old and the new. For almost a century, it has been the foremost provider of teacher education in Western Australia. Since its establishment as a University in 1991, ECU has become noted for its vigorous and innovative course content, selected research and creative pursuits.It is Western Australia's second largest university, offering an extensive selection of courses across a wide range of disciplines to around 20,000 students - one-third of the State's university students.

More than 290 courses are offered through the five faculties: Business and Public Management; Communications, Health and Science; Community Services, Education and Social Sciences; Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts; and the Faculty of Regional Professional Studies.

The University has three campuses in the Perth metropolitan area and one in Bunbury, a city 180km south of Perth.
