HELLYER COLLEGE

Hellyer College is one of eight secondary education colleges in Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1976, it provides academic and vocational training to around 900 students taken from a catchment area of Burnie and the surrounding thinly populated north western region of the island, including King Island, Wynyard and Smithton.

The majority of students enter directly from years10 or 11. Some enroll as full fee paying students from overseas and as local mature age studentswho have
not as yet had the opportunity to study at a senior secondary level.

HellyerCollege has been a Registered Training Provider (RTO) since 1996. Hellyer College hassuccessfully achieved Quality Endorsed Registered Training Organisation (QERTO) status and is presentlyaccredited as an RIO under the newAustralian Qualifications Training Framework standards.

Hellyer College delivers national training packages across a range of industry programs: automotive, engineering, hospitality, retail, tourism, information teclmology, music, community services and furnishings and furniture making.

Hellyer College was named after Henry Hellyer, who was an explorer in north west Tasmania during the 1820s.

Hellyer is the only public college catering for years 11 and 12 in Burnie
