OXLEY COLLEGE

Large enough to cater, small enough to care

Oxley College, in Bowral, is a non-denominational school founded on Christian principles. Catering for girls and boys from K to Year 12, Oxley College offers academic and personal care of the highest order.

Oxley College is committed to the development of the whole person. Therefore, alongside its academic programmes, cultural and sporting activities are an essential part of the educational offering. There are high expectations of involvement in a wide range of activities through which young people can develop their gifts or discover new ones. In all things, the quality of personal involvement is emphasised. The size of the College – five hundred students - permits personal interaction throughout the school community. Students are not overwhelmed by institutional grandeur and procedures. Yet, Oxley College is a disciplined and ordered community where there are high expectations of personal conduct and presentation. There is a developed programme of pastoral care through which staff take an active interest in the whole development of students – academic, social, personal and spiritual, in close relationship with the parents.

There has been a comprehensive programme of development at the College over the past decade. The David Wright Library, named after the founding Headmaster, was opened in 1996 to provide a traditional Library and electronic resource centre for the College community. Modern computer facilities and Science laboratories enable students to engage in practical learning in Science and Technology. Specialist facilities for Physical Education were opened in 2003 and an acoustically designed Music School was opened officially at the end of August 2005.

At the same time, Oxley College is conscious that changes in physical structure only reflect the central purpose of education, the building of hearts and minds of young people who need an understanding of the unchanging values of the past in the context of an ever-changing world.
