THE GLENNIE SCHOOL
All She Can Be ®
Head of School: Mrs Wendy Ashley-Cooper
The Glennie School is an Anglican School for girls from Kindergarten to Year 12 with boarding from Year 6. Since 1908, Glennie has provided boarding school education for girls in Toowoomba and is one of the oldest day and boarding schools in Australia.
With over 800 girls from Toowoomba, country Queensland, Northern New South Wales, the Northern Territory and overseas, Glennie’s vision is to develop in each girl the intellectual, physical and spiritual potential to be All She Can Be ®
Glennie is located in the Garden City of Toowoomba and the gateway to the Darling Downs and Western Queensland. Since establishment, Glennie has maintained a long and accomplished tradition as a provider of a quality all round education for girls. Advantaged by a Glennie education, these girls will add value to the community in many ways whilst striving for a happy and successful life.
Glennie girls are to be educated to the highest academic standards of which they are capable. In addition, Glennie girls are to be given the opportunities to develop their sporting and cultural talents through a rich, diverse and relevant co-curricular program. By achieving an understanding of their own spiritual dimension, Glennie girls will make a positive contribution to the world with a sense of their own worth and character in addition to a well-developed sense of citizenship. As well-skilled, well-rounded and well-grounded young people of excellent character, integrity and poise, Glennie girls will be able to be all they can be.
As a school for girls, Glennie generates a high level of engagement in learning. An all girls atmosphere allows safe risk taking, is unbounded by notions of ‘girls vs boys’, encourages academic achievement and develops a greater sense of connectedness with the School and each other. There is clear acknowledgement that girls thrive in collaborative teams, can participate at all levels, celebrate achievement and become leaders at many levels.
Glennie boarders’ second family is the boarding community. It is lively, inclusive, supportive and cohesive, strengthened by caring for each other and complemented by exceptional Glennie people. Boarding facilities are modern, comfortable and cosy, and surrounded by a garden setting that provides the ultimate “back yard” for rest and play. Each girl has her own private “roomette” with a bed, wardrobe, storage and study unit. In the senior house, the girls enjoy their own climate controlled room within a semi-independent living environment. Each boarder has access to the Internet, telephones, common rooms and all other school facilities.
Glennie’s world-class sporting facilities are an athlete’s delight, and include a state-of-the-art synthetic track for athletes, indoor heated 25m swimming pool, tennis courts and a fully equipped gym. Glennie nurtures and showcases the extraordinary artistic talents of the girls in a well resourced Performing Arts Centre. Classrooms are light and bright, and ergonomically designed to accommodate girls of all ages.
Since 1996, The Glennie School’s information technology education for girls continues to be a leader in its innovative use of Information Technology with computer resources integrated at all year levels using notebooks, iPad and Tablet mobile technology. From Year 7, Glennie girls use School hire or their own notebook computers extensively for lessons, homework and assignments, and later can elect to take courses in Multimedia Application and Information Technology Systems to Certificate level.
Glennie’s cultural program opens a world of artistic endeavour and inspiration. Glennie girls have the opportunity to participate and succeed in school musicals, eisteddfods, cultural exchanges, dramatic performances, debating competitions and art exhibitions. Glennie’s French Immersion program is a concentrated and challenging course of authentic immersion guided by native speaking French teacher. The program provides maximum exposure to and results in language fluency and unlocks the door to an international career using the world’s diplomatic language.
We promote fitness and health not just through the years at school, but as a way of life. Glennie girls are encouraged to participate in many of the wide range of sports available at both a competitive and non-competitive level. The School’s representative sports teams are combined under the banner of Club G. As part of a sporting education for girls, these teams participate in the Toowoomba community’s club sport competitions throughout the week and during weekends.
A high percentage of women who have become leaders in their field were educated at girls’ schools. Glennie students have excelled in many professions and careers from political, the Arts, Science, international sport, business and technology. We have established a leading role in Australia with a strong reputation in Languages, Cultural Programs, Information Technology and Sport.
