ST GREGORY'S COLLEGE, CAMPBELLTOWN

Pastoral Care

St Gregory's College is a Marist school and one common feature of a Marist school is the development of a family spirit. This aspect of our community can be seen in the way that all people are welcomed and included in our community.

Pastoral care affects all aspects of life at St Gregory's. All members of the College community have a responsibility to ensure others feel safe, valued and happy. The College Leadership Team and Year Coordinators have developed policies and procedures to assist all students in their academic, social, physical and spiritual development and these are provided on our website.

The St Gregory's College community consisting of students, teachers, parents, Old Boys and supporters of the school should reflect, by our care and consideration of others, the words of Jesus, 'By this everyone will know you are my disciples - if you love one another' (John 13:35).

Support
Year Coordinators and Homeroom teachers maintain a daily supportive relationship with each student under their care. The Boarding students are cared for by both a House Coordinator and a supervisor who lives within the boarding house. All staff at the College make personal connections with students and help to ensure that every boy is cared for and has available to him a point of contact and advice. Whether these connections are formal or informal they help develop the family spirit of the College.

At school, students and their families have access to professional support through an Educational and Developmental Psychologist and Mr Tom Greally, the College Counsellor.

Big Brother programme
A peer support program operates for Year 7 students, who have a Year 11 buddy to help them learn about the College, ask questions and discuss any problems. The Year 7 students find it valuable to know the older boys and strong friendships are formed. The senior boys in Year 11 develop their leadership and personal skills as they mentor and guide the younger boys.

Discipline
Discipline is an important part of the pastoral care programme at St Gregory’s College. In a positive way the boys are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, be aware of the consequences of their actions and consider the needs and rights of others. The College works closely with families to develop a partnership between school and the home. Students are encouraged to develop self-discipline, pride in themselves and their school, respect and courtesy.
