The teaching of Computer Science at Curtin University has a history reaching back to the establishment of the Western Australian Institution of Technology in 1967. Its undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses in computing have a high reputation and continue to be keenly sought after. Employment prospects for graduates in Computer Science remain healthy.

The Department of Computing is active in research and has a full graduate program. Areas of research include: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, Parallel and Distributed computing, Software Engineering, Algorithmics and Theoretical Computer Science, and Database Management. Graduates with good results may proceed to Masters and Doctorate degrees either through the honours course or by completing a Postgraduate Diploma.
