Curtin's Department of Design offers three streams of study which encompass a wide range of career options for aspiring designers.

Designers work as problem solvers. They create original visual images; they produce interactive communications, new products and environments. They deal with innovation. They are aware of trends and issues, at a national and international level.

In the first year, undergraduate students engage in a wide range of design experiences which cover the major fields of design practice. This allows students to identify their special skills and interests before choosing their main focus of study from the areas of Graphic Design, Illustration, Furniture Design, Design Photography, Product Design and Multimedia Design. In addition to design practice students will gain good research and investigation skills, experience working in a team environment, and skills in communicating effectively in various media. All members of our teaching staff are active design practitioners with national and international industry experience.

Design graduates develop careers and work as freelance designers in a wide range of fields such as: advertising, marketing, manufacturing, museums, art galleries, film, television, theatre, entertainment, consultancy, the public sector, printing, publishing, electronic manufacturing, information industry, education, toys, disability services, public services and public relations.

Graduates of the Department of Design are in a position to reap rewards intellectually, artistically and financially, so be a participant, not a bystander, in a world of your own creation.
