The University of Newcastle's International House was opened in 1989, and currently accommodates for 226 residents.

The International House aim is to provide an opportunity for students worldwide to uncover the Australian experience, by selecting an equal number of Australian and overseas residents for residence.

By living, studying and socialising together, it is hoped that students from widely differing cultures will come to know and appreciate diverse backgrounds and cultures.
