ALICE SPRINGS SCHOOL OF THE AIR
Alice Springs School of the Air provides high quality education for remote and isolated students.
The Alice Springs School of the Air provides an educational service for about 140 children living on properties or settlements covering over 1 million square kilometers of Central Australia.
These children grow and develop in a peculiar situation, isolated in a unique environment and their formal education must of necessity be unorthodox.
On air lessons occur daily with class lessons held in the morning. Children are also given a 10 minute time slot each week for the purpose of a private lesson, (PLT) to address individual needs.
Pre - Year 3 - 20 min lessons x 3 per week
Years 4 - 7 - 30 min lessons x 3 per week
In addition to the regular classes students have an on air library lesson every week and join in an elective program also once a week.
HF radio can never be 100% and general school communication can also cause difficulties so to help get around these two potential problems the school has early morning messages. Each morning at 7:50am, Early Morning Messages are broadcast from the main studio.
