'Caring, Striving and Learning'

Principal: Mr Hugh Blaikie

Wellington is a large co-educational state secondary college (Years 7-12) located in the City of Monash approximately 24 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. The College enjoys a very positive reputation in the local community and overseas. It provides a caring, quality education program for over 1800 local students from the Mulgrave, Springvale, Noble Park, Dandenong North, Keysborough and Westall areas, together with over 90 International Students from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and India. It has well established traditions and values of Student Leadership, Service, Sporting and Academic Performance as encapsulated in the “Wellington Way”.

Junior and Middle School, Students study an inclusive Core Program based on the Victorian Curriculum and, where necessary, are provided with additional Literacy/Numeracy support. The Year 9 Curriculum provides special interest activities and increased study choices through the Global Citizenship: Connecting With Our World program. At Year 10 students study semester length electives alongside the essential core subjects and approximately one third of the cohort study a VCE subject. The College has a large VCE program for the Senior Students but also offers VET and VCAL programs.

To accommodate the varied interests of the students Wellington offers an extensive co-curricular program: musical ensembles & bands, inter-house and the inter school sports and cultural competitions, a theatrical production, a presentation ball, social service activities, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and a variety of special interest clubs.

Extensive facilities at Wellington include a modern multi-media library and a full range of specialist rooms.  All classrooms have a 21st century learning focus. Other key features include two gymnasiums, Humanities, Science and Language wings together with centres for Three Sub Schools, Technology, the Visual Arts and Performing Arts, including the 288 seat M. J. Putrino Theatre. In 2013, we were very proud to open our Wellbeing Centre, incorporating student wellbeing, (including a visiting doctor) and pathways services for our students and their families. In 2014 we opened a state of the art International Centre. Wellington provides plenty of room for active play on the ovals or multipurpose, all weather courts and quiet conversation areas in sheltered, landscaped courtyards.

The school is currently in the midst of  its exciting master plan building project. The “Vanellus Centre” was opened in 2019 and we are currently planning the final building stage at the front of the school.
