Alfred Deakin High is a Year 7 - 10 school.

The school encourages and enjoys the confidence and support of its community, both local and more broadly across Canberra, with a considerable number of students attending from out of the designated enrolment area.

It is very important that students and parents realise that students have available options within the designated KLAs areas - notably within Physical Education and Health, English, the Arts, LOTE, Technology, Maths, and Science. It is most important therefore, that students and their parents know what subjects are included in the various areas of Study, particularly in Years 9 and 10, so that they may make the choices they desire within the framework outlined earlier.

In Year 8, Technology is a course, which includes Design Technology (an integrated semester program of design in diverse materials and technical drawing) together with a term of Horticulture and a term of Nutrition and Food Studies and Computing. LOTE offers French, Indonesian and Japanese. If sufficient numbers choose, there will be a class in each for Year 8, then continuing classes into years 9 and 10.
