The School of Earth and Geographical Sciences, at the University of Western Australia in Perth, was formed in 2002 by merging three Departments: Geography; Geology and Geophysics; and Soil Science and Plant Nutrition.

The merger created a unique combination of expertise spanning physical, chemical and biological aspects of the environment as well as the impact of human activities on that environment: from deep rocks to regolith and soil surface to landscape processes, marine and environmental science to an understanding of the nature and function of past and present environments. The new School emphasises an integrated global perspective on issues posed by the Earth and its environment.
