IHMA assists Australian Apprentices/Trainees and International Students achieve employability in the Australian hospitality industry via the utilisation of:

- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
-  Classroom theory training (24 students per class maximum - carpeted, climate controlled, tea and coffee facilities, chilled filtered water, microwave oven etc) - view an IHMA classroom
- Training kitchen practicals (12 students per instructor maximum - commercially graded and equipped kitchens) - view an IHMA practical session
- Managed industry placements
- Structured on-the-job training and
- Full time and intensive method training with an aim to achieve outcomes expected of traditional time served apprentices.

Importantly, IHMA is a strong proponent of exposure to real commercial pressures to assist students gain real workplace competence in a range of cuisines and circumstances.
