Profile: Clayfield College was founded in 1931 and celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2006. Clayfield College has a strong academic emphasis. Students are encouraged to set and achieve personal goals within the academic arena. Small class sizes ensure more attention can be given to each individual child’s needs. This approach has successfully ensured high academic results over many years for Clayfield College students. The Christian beliefs of the community support the personal development and fulfilment of each student’s life both during their time at school and upon completion of Year 12. Kodaly music teaching methods are employed from Prep to Year 12 and the De Bono Thinking Skills are heavily featured across the entire curriculum. In addition, the College is a centre of excellence for tennis, swimming, gymnastics, hockey, soccer and athletics.

Curriculum:
Prep to Year 7: In the Junior School, subjects based on the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) include: English, Mathematics, Study of Society & Environment, Science and Art while specialists teach Music, Physical Education, Library, Computing, Learning Support, Gifted & Talented, Reading Recovery, Christian Education, Japanese, Design Technology, Cooking and English as a Second Language.
Years 8 to 12: Clayfield College offers a flexible curriculum which include the following elective subjects: Accounting, Ancient History, Art, Business Principles and Practice, Chemistry, Christian Education, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Drama, Economics, English, Geography, German, Health Education, Physical Education, Information Processing and Technology (university first-year subjects are an option), Legal Studies, Mathematics A, B and C, Mathematics Advanced, Modern History, Music, Music Extension, Consumer Mathematics, Physical Education (one compulsory lesson a week), Physics, Study of Society and Environment, Vocational Studies, Work Placement.
Sport: Swimming, hockey, softball, cricket, artistic gymnastics, athletics, netball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, karate, cross-country, touch and badminton.
Cultural: Choral groups, String groups, Stage Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Orchestra, Wind ensemble, Junior Concert Band, Flute groups.
Extra-curricular activities: Red Cross, Amnesty International, Debating and Public Speaking, Double Helix Science Club, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Future Problem Solving, Interact, Unifem, Orchestras and Choirs, Artbox.
Welfare and personal development: Emphasis is placed on the care and nurturing of the individual. All teachers take an active interest in the well-being and general development of each student. The College’s house system is operated to complement this philosophy. As an important part of the College’s pastoral care program, all students study a personal development course that incorporates learning essential to the development of the whole person and deals with important life issues.
Boarding features: The boarding facilities accommodating 124 female boarders are first class. Stage 1 of the new boarding house development which included new accommodation, entertainment and study areas was completed at the start of 2005. Stage 2 of the development which included a new dining room, laundry and additional accommodation was completed in 2006. The state of the art boarding facility is fully air-conditioned and networked to the school’s computer system. The residential staff is experienced and provides a high level of care and supervision to all girl boarders. A Recreation Officer is on staff to provide for weekend activities for the boarders. Boarding students are allowed to go on weekend leave during term time.
Special features: Easy access to rail and bus, close to the city centre and airports, before- and after-school care on the premises for Junior School, Year 8 academic scholarships (available through internal examination). More than 90% of Year 12 students receive tertiary offers on a regular basis.
