QUEENWOOD SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Per Aspera Ad Astra - 'Through Struggles to the Star'

Independent, Girls (K–Year 12)

Profile: Queenwood encourages the highest fulfillment of personal academic potential through self- discipline, self-  reliance, and independent and cooperative learning. The school offers a wide experience of sporting and cultural activities, together with a focus on social responsibility and commitment to helping others. Queenwood offers the opportunity for students to make sound progress in academic achievement. Students are treated as individuals and staff, specialised in their disciplines, teach at differentiated levels. This approach to education means that special programs are offered for gifted children, for those from non-English-speaking backgrounds, and for those with learning difficulties. Virtually all students in Year 7 go on to complete Year 12 of whom 98% choose to further their education at university or another tertiary institution.

In Year 11, students can choose to study the Higher School Certificate or the International  Baccalaureate (IB).

The school has a published discipline policy but no formal rule book. Each student is expected to evaluate her behaviour according to the following guidelines: is it safe for all who might be affected; is it considerate of all concerned; does it reflect well on you, your family and your school? The Pastoral Care Program at Queenwood supports each student and approaches student needs in a positive manner. Counseling is available and a Peer Support program is in operation.

Academic scholarships are offered in Years 6, 7 and 11. In Year 11, the scholarships may include study in foreign languages and visual arts. The school caters for gifted and talented students and girls with special abilities.

Computing facilities: Queenwood is a leading school in the integration of Technology into teaching and learning. “Smart Classrooms” (technology-rich rooms - 45 in total - equipped with computers, data projectors, DVD and video players, and touch sensitive interactive white boards) are in every campus and provide much enhanced student involvement and interest. An innovative “Home Link” program using USB thumb drives ensures that students can carry their computer work between home and school without the expense of laptop computers. “Web School” is an on-line virtual classroom tool that provides access to resources from anywhere, at any time. There is a mix of classic computer rooms, smaller technology access centres adjacent to classrooms, and PCs in classrooms; these are all centrally managed and regularly updated. The School believes that computer use is a basic skill needed by all.
