Tempe High School is an inner city, multicultural high school on the Priority Schools Funding Program (PSFP). Our purpose is to set high standards in comprehensive education for a multicultural Australia. The school's students are 85% non English speaking background with Chinese, Greek, Islander and Vietnamese communities strongly represented.

The school’s purpose is to provide progressive and innovative education for all its selective and mainstream students in a safe and harmonious multi-cultural environment. High quality teaching and professional standards are supported with the latest improvements in technology and other teaching resources. The school endeavours to provide a rich and diverse curriculum as well as a wide range of extra-curricula activities.

The school has had much public recognition for its outstanding programs, including two Director-General's Awards for School Achievement (1996 and 2000). In 1996 the school was also named as "one of the top 25 schools in NSW" by DET. The school received international recognition following the SBS TV documentary "The Cutting Edge - The School of Babel" which highly praised its multicultural programs.

In the past ten years the school has had students appear regularly in HSC Honour Lists, including several firsts in the state subject results.
