SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY

Welcome to the UNSW School of Psychology. The School is located within the Faculty of Science and has about 26 academic staff, 15 general support staff and many temporary staff employed on research grants.

The School has an active research program that is highly competitive by both national and international benchmarks, with particular strengths in behavioural neuroscience, cognitive psychology, perception, social psychology, individual differences, developmental psychology, research methods, clinical psychology, organisational psychology and forensic psychology.

The School maintains a collegial and interdisciplinary environment that facilitates interactions between basic and applied researchers working in different domains. This active and supportive research environment together with modern and well-equipped research laboratories provides support for approximately 50 PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.

The School takes a leadership role in teaching and professional affairs. The School is committed to the scientist-practitioner approach to the professional application of psychology. This commitment is reflected in comprehensive, scientifically-based undergraduate programs that provide the basic disciplinary training we regard as a prerequisite for professional as well as research psychologists.

Post-graduate programs in Clinical, Organisational and Forensic Psychology extend students' study of the theoretical issues relevant to each domain of professional practice and provide the training, supervision and experience in professional practice that is required for registration of psychologists in NSW.

The School has excellent contacts with industry, commerce and the public sector which facilitate the field placement of students and access to work settings for thesis and other research.
