TUNRA (The University of Newcastle Research Associates) is the commercial arm of the University of Newcastle. It was incorporated in 1969 as a company limited by guarantee by the Council of The University of Newcastle, to provide a broadly-based research and specialist education service to industry, commerce and the community.

TUNRA is a not-for-profit organisation with a Board of Directors chosen from the local business community.

TUNRA’s aim is:

To provide consultancy services to industry and government by accessing the expert knowledge base that exists within the University of Newcastle.
Manage research projects undertaken with industry and the University’s academic staff.
Commercialise inventions and patent protect intellectual property that is generated from academics and professional staff within the University.
